What CPT 96136 covers
96136 captures test administration and scoring by the physician or QHP for the first 30 minutes, when two or more tests are given. It is distinct from the evaluation codes (96130–96133), which cover interpreting the results and reporting.
Each additional 30 minutes of provider administration is reported with the add-on 96137. When a technician administers the tests instead, 96138 and 96139 are used. Administration time is documented separately from evaluation time.
It fits the hands-on administration and scoring of standardized tests by the provider — the delivery of the tests themselves, separate from the evaluation and interpretation work.
